about

a record I made for fun.

hitting a milestone soon. thinking about where i've been and where i am going musically. thinking about people i've played with and all the things that tie us together in the universe. this is one of those records. recorded hastily in the winter in between other studio projects. its not supposed to be perfect, just a moment in time where i couldn't stop thinking about things i wanted to do and say. its part love letter part aching realization of short time, part fuck it i'll do what i want, part filling of the void.

i found this album through a friend. i was 16 years old and listening to smashing pumpkins and dr dre. i went to the local coffee shop and my friend layla asked me to watch the front while she went next door to scotts record bar in kankakee illinois to find something "other than this hippie shit" playing on the stereo. she came back with the sea and cake and my bloody valentine. i cant overstate how those first 4 snare hits knocked me out. i never heard anything like it - loud and raucous and then soft but still really loud. i fell in love instantly. i think i've listened to this record more than any other. sometimes for pleasure, other times for guidance. always finding something new.

for this work, i recorded some tracks to casssette then imported into ableton live, sometimes the other way around. I dumped all these songs out to a 2 track tape machine and then back to digital. i tried to record each song as fast as possible. some of it sounds great. some of it doesn't. im not aiming for perfection i just wanted some catharsis. im sorry to be selfish this is more for me than it is for you. but i hope you like it if you choose to listen.
